"People in situ wherever I travel, are a constant reminder of how a figure fits in so well with the surroundings. Whether on the move or placidly seated, a readymade composition seems to be there for the artist. I have managed to develop a photographic memory so that I can visualise a pose after the figure has moved away. But in India, people are natural models for they sit long enough for me to sketch on the spot and get as much detail as I need. I admit I do use a camera, for a quick snap will often turn out to be the basis of a really successful work".
