"The rich yellow ochres, olive green, terracotta and raw sienna colours have attracted me to the mountainous area of Andalusia in Southern Spain. I spent two winters sketching, painting and taking in the mountain air. While friends were shivering in the cold English climate, I enjoyed sitting on sunny hillsides covered with blossom and orange trees, the sound of goats' bells nearby and watching lizards dart around my feet. Competa was then an small unspoilt white-washed village perched on the side of a hill with mountain views, and only a 30 minute precarious drive to the coast. Now it is on the tourist route but I was lucky in the early 90's to be there. Other paintings includet my trip to Canada where the fall presented a full colour range for my canvasses."
